Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College

Institution of National Importance

The Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital is a Government medical institution and an integral part of the Aligarh Muslim University. JNMCH came into existence through the vision of Sir Ziauddin Ahmed, who worked towards its establishment in AMU. Consequently, under the leadership of Prof. Hadi Hasan, funds were collected nationwide and eventually the medical college was declared open on the 2nd of October, 1962.

Recognized as an Institution of National importance (Seventh Schedule, Article 246 of the Indian Constitution), the college is NAAC–Accredited with CGPA of 3.35 on 4-Point Scale at β€œA+” Grade. It comprises 26 Departments and 3 Centres. JNMC, AMU has consistently ranked among the top 25 medical colleges in India by NIRF (MHRD, Govt. of India) and India Today.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital, a 1269 bedded tertiary care hospital, provides accessible and affordable healthcare to all sections of society, especially to the economically weaker sections. With world-class faculty, cutting-edge hospital facilities, and a strong research focus, JNMC stands as one of the most reputed medical colleges in North India.

Department of Anatomy

The Department of Anatomy came into existence concurrently with the JNMC on 2nd October 1962 with an intake of the 1st Batch of 40 MBBS students, which subsequently increased to 150 in the academic session of 1996-97. Known for its research-orientedness and versatility, the department features world-class infrastructure for both gross and microscopic anatomical studies.

A Cadaver based surgical Skill Lab was inaugurated on December 2025 to enhance the learning platform, offering cutting-edge practical experience for medical professionals and students alike.

  • ❖ Embalming facility, Cadaver storage tank, and Cold storage plant
  • ❖ Gross anatomy laboratory (Capacity: 200 students)
  • ❖ Museum with dissected parts, specimens, models, and charts
  • ❖ 3 tutorial rooms (Capacity: 50 students) for Gross Anatomy

Research Labs

  • ❖ UG histology laboratory and Postgraduate research lab
  • ❖ Neuroanatomy, Embryology, and Teratology labs
  • ❖ Computer lab for UG teaching and PG research activity
  • ❖ Dedicated Seminar room for PG seminars and Journal club
Technical Equipment Inventory:Equipments include: Cadaver injector, OT for cadaver Disection, Smart Boards, Electric saw, various microtomes (rotary, sliding, and freezing), Distillation plant, Overhead and slide projectors, Incubators, ovens, computers, laptops, and high-definition LCD projectors.
